Therapeutic Early Childhood Program (Relief Nursery Classroom)

Small classes and trauma-informed learning

Our therapeutic classrooms serve children from six weeks to five years old, offering individualized attention with low teacher-to-child ratios (1:3 for infants and toddlers). These classrooms provide a safe, consistent environment where children build social and emotional skills through a trauma-informed curriculum.

For parents unable to access classroom services, our outreach program brings support directly to the home. Families receive parenting coaching, developmental activities, crisis intervention, and monthly respite opportunities, ensuring they are never alone in facing challenges.

ERDC Childcare

Affordable full-day childcare in Ontario, OR

Through Oregon’s Employment Related Day Care (ERDC) subsidy, we provide quality childcare for children ages six weeks to three years, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Families benefit from consistent routines, USDA-compliant meals, and a therapeutic curriculum that goes beyond standard daycare.

Therapeutic Approach (TAC) Program

One-on-one behavioral and developmental support

The TAC Program offers developmental screenings, personalized plans, and 30-minute one-on-one sessions for children with behavioral or transition needs. Starting this year, families in Treasure Valley can also book external TAC appointments, making this service available to the wider community.

Parent Education

Classes and workshops to strengthen families

Parents and caregivers can attend group classes, workshops, or one-on-one sessions to learn positive discipline, stress management, and child development strategies. These programs empower parents with practical skills that build confidence and stability at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Programs & Services FAQ

  • What ages of children can enroll in your programs?

We serve children from six weeks old through five years of age, covering the most important early childhood years. These are the years when social, emotional, and cognitive development is most critical, and our trauma-informed approach is designed to support this growth. Infants and toddlers can enroll in therapeutic classrooms or ERDC childcare, while preschoolers participate in therapeutic early learning sessions. Families with children in this age range are welcome to reach out to see which program best meets their needs.

  • Is there a cost for families to participate in these services?

No family is turned away because of an inability to pay. Many of our services, including therapeutic classrooms, outreach, and parent education, are provided at no cost to families thanks to community support and state funding. For programs that involve childcare subsidies, such as ERDC, eligibility is determined by the state of Oregon, but our staff can help guide families through the application process. We are committed to ensuring that cost is never a barrier to accessing care in Malheur County and the Treasure Valley.

  • What is the difference between the therapeutic classrooms and the ERDC childcare program?

Therapeutic classrooms are small, part-time sessions focused on social-emotional development for children under significant stress or trauma. These classrooms operate with very low teacher-to-child ratios, often 1:3, to give individualized attention and specialized support. The ERDC childcare program, by contrast, provides full-day care for working parents who qualify for Oregon’s Employment Related Day Care subsidy. Both programs use a trauma-informed curriculum, but the structure, hours, and eligibility criteria are different.

  • How does the Outreach Home Visiting program work?

Our Outreach program brings trained staff directly into families’ homes to provide parenting guidance, child development activities, and immediate support during times of crisis. This program is especially valuable for families who are unable to access classroom programs due to space, transportation, or scheduling barriers. Home visitors build strong, ongoing relationships with parents and children, helping to reduce stress and improve daily routines. Families also gain access to respite opportunities, the resource pantry, and community events through this program.

  • Can families outside of Ontario, Oregon participate in your services?

Yes, we serve families across Malheur County and the wider Treasure Valley, including nearby communities such as Vale, Nyssa, and some Idaho border towns. While our physical location is in Ontario, families from surrounding areas are encouraged to reach out to learn more about eligibility and availability. Many programs, like home visiting and parent education, are flexible and designed to reach families wherever they live in the region. Our goal is to ensure that all children in the Treasure Valley who need support can access it, regardless of their city of residence.
