Mental Health Awareness Month: Supporting Families, Building Stronger Futures in the Treasure Valley
May 05 2026 14:00

Each May, we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month
—a national reminder that mental well‑being is essential for everyone, especially young children and the caregivers who nurture them. At Treasure Valley Children’s Relief Nursery (TVCRN), our mission is rooted in this truth. We exist to prevent child abuse, strengthen families, and build resilient communities
through trauma‑informed early childhood services and compassionate family support.
In Malheur County and across the broader Treasure Valley, many families face overwhelming stress—from financial instability to housing insecurity, limited childcare access, and generational trauma. Without support, chronic stress can affect a child’s development, family stability, and long-term mental health. This is why our work matters, and why Mental Health Awareness Month is so important.
Trauma-Informed Care Is Mental Health Care
At TVCRN, we meet families where they are. Our therapeutic preschool and infant–toddler classrooms
provide a nurturing environment grounded in trauma‑informed practices. Children receive consistent routines, emotional regulation support, social‑emotional learning, and individualized attention from trained educators.
For caregivers, our home visiting program, positive parenting classes, developmental screenings, and family resource support
help reduce stress and strengthen parent‑child relationships. These services promote mental health not just in moments of crisis—but every day.
Why Mental Health Awareness Matters for Young Children
Birth to age five is a critical period for brain development. Positive interactions, stability, and responsive care shape lifelong mental health outcomes. When families are supported, children thrive. When parents feel confident and connected, communities grow stronger.
This month, we encourage our community to learn more about early childhood mental wellness and the protective power of strong, supported families. Awareness is the first step—and action is the next.
