Supporting Families Through Education & Connection

Building Healthy Families (BHF) is a community partner housed within Treasure Valley Children’s Relief Nursery in Ontario, Oregon. Together, we strengthen families through education, engagement, advocacy, and hands-on support. BHF offers a range of free programs for parents, caregivers, and children that promote healthy development, early learning, and positive family relationships across Malheur County.

What We Offer

Family & Early Childhood Programs

Early Childhood Programs

  • Mini Mountaineers Playgroup – Weekly outdoor adventures, games, and nature-based activities that encourage play, literacy, and social connection.


  • Kindermusik – A fun, music and movement class that builds early learning and emotional skills for children from birth through kindergarten.


  • Storytime & Early Literacy Packets – Weekly library gatherings and take-home literacy kits help young children develop pre-reading and fine motor skills.



  • Food, Clothes & Diaper Pantry – In partnership with TVCRN, families can access free essentials and even request diaper delivery.

Parenting Support & Education

  • Home Visits – Personalized weekly visits offering parenting support, education, and resource navigation.



  • Parent Cafés – Monthly gatherings with free lunch, childcare, and open conversation to strengthen family connections.


  • Parenting Classes – Courses like Conscious Discipline, Strengthening Families, and Make Parenting a Pleasure help parents build confidence and positive discipline strategies.


  • Safe Sitter Classes – For youth ages 11–14, teaching responsibility, safety, and basic caregiving skills.

Community Engagement

Events & Parent Council

Building Healthy Families hosts regular community events and a Parent Council—bringing parents and local partners together to share ideas, plan projects, and build a supportive network for families across Malheur County.
